Migrant Reflections on Memory, Loss & Resistance in Times of Russia’s War against Ukraine
19.07.2025 - 03.08.2025
Tears of Things is a multimedia work by Ukrainian artist Anna Perepechai that reflects on the Russian war against Ukraine from a personal perspective. The starting point is her home region of Chernihiv, which has been under threat since 2014 and where her family was also affected by the 2022 invasion. In photographs, texts, videos, and artistic actions, she addresses themes such as grief, loss, migration, resistance, and memory work in the context of colonization and Russification. The work combines documentary elements with experimental forms of expression. Perepechai has been living in Leipzig since 2020, studies photography and moving image at the HGB, and has been volunteering in Ukrainian initiatives since 2022.
